What Does ZeroDrag Build For The UAV Industry?
ZeroDrag, a drone avionics and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) sub-components startup, has raised Rs 6.5 crore in a seed funding round led by Transition VC.
Before this round, the startup had raised Rs 1.2 crore in pre-seed funding from Enrission India Capital and angel investors in September 2023.
Founded in 2022 by Amit Nimje and Shantanu Bhede, the Nagpur-based company develops indigenous drone electronics, communication systems and autonomy-ready hardware for UAV platforms.
The startup focuses on building the foundational electronics infrastructure that powers modern drone systems across defence, agriculture, logistics and industrial applications.
How Will ZeroDrag Use The Newly Raised Capital?
According to the company, the fresh funding will be used to expand research and development capabilities, scale manufacturing operations and strengthen testing and quality infrastructure.
ZeroDrag also plans to improve supply chain resilience and accelerate development of next-generation UAV avionics products for both Indian and international markets.
Industry experts believe India’s drone ecosystem is witnessing rapid growth driven by defence modernisation, industrial automation and government-backed localisation initiatives.
The startup’s focus on indigenous electronics and UAV sub-systems aligns closely with India’s broader push toward self-reliance in critical defence and aerospace technologies.
Which Drone Technologies Does ZeroDrag Develop?
ZeroDrag develops multiple core UAV technologies including autopilots, motor controllers, GNSS modules, telemetry systems, communication infrastructure and payload integration systems.
Its products are designed for drone manufacturers, enterprise UAV operators, FPV users and industrial drone applications.
The company follows an OEM-agnostic and application-agnostic model, enabling it to support a wide range of drone platforms and operational use cases.
Industry observers believe companies building core drone electronics and avionics layers could become strategically important as India’s drone manufacturing ecosystem matures.
Why Is India’s Drone Industry Attracting Investor Interest?
India’s drone and UAV sector has witnessed rising investor attention over the past few years due to increasing applications across defence, agriculture, logistics, infrastructure inspection and surveillance.
Government policies promoting domestic drone manufacturing and import substitution have also accelerated startup activity within the sector.
Industry analysts believe indigenous avionics, communication systems and autonomous navigation technologies remain critical areas for India’s long-term drone ecosystem development.
ZeroDrag currently supplies high-performance UAV sub-components to drone OEMs operating across defence, industrial and enterprise sectors.
What Are ZeroDrag’s Future Expansion Plans?
Over the next 12–24 months, ZeroDrag plans to significantly expand manufacturing capacity and engineering capabilities.
The startup also aims to broaden its product portfolio into enterprise-grade UAV hardware designed for heavy-lift drones and future electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) platforms.
Industry experts believe eVTOL systems and autonomous aerial mobility solutions could emerge as major long-term growth segments within the broader aerospace industry.
ZeroDrag currently competes with global drone component players including Holybro, Caddx, SpeedyBee and HGLRC.
