Consumer AI Startup Bets Big On AI Assistants As User Base Crosses 1 Million Monthly Active Users
Consumer AI startup Equal AI has raised $30 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Prosus Ventures and Tomales Bay Capital, as investor interest in AI-powered consumer applications continues to accelerate in India.
The latest funding round also attracted participation from Valiant Fund, Think Investments, PhonePe founder Sameer Nigam, Airtel family office member Zubin Bharti Mittal, Skyflow co-founder Anshu Sharma, Meta India and Southeast Asia Vice President Sandhya Devanathan, and CtrlS Datacenters Chairman Sridhar Pinnapureddy.
Notably, Prosus Ventures and Tomales Bay Capital had also co-led Equal AI’s $10 million Series A funding round in November 2024, underlining their continued confidence in the company’s growth trajectory.
Fresh Capital To Expand AI Assistant Capabilities
The Hyderabad based startup plans to use the newly raised capital to strengthen its consumer AI offerings and expand the capabilities of its AI-powered assistant platform.
According to the company, the investment will support product development across communications, financial services, lifestyle services, shopping assistance, and concierge solutions.
As competition intensifies in the consumer AI segment, Equal AI is positioning itself as a comprehensive AI assistant platform capable of handling multiple user tasks through voice and conversational interfaces.
From Enterprise Infrastructure To Consumer AI
Founded in 2022 by Keshav Reddy, Equal AI initially focused on enterprise infrastructure solutions.
Before launching its consumer products, the company operated as a consent-based identity and data-sharing platform serving enterprises across sectors including banking, lending, insurance, telecom, and digital services.
Reddy previously worked as a venture capitalist and backed several successful startups, including Cred, Upstox, Hive, Genies, and Chipper Cash.
The company’s strategic direction changed in October 2025 when it entered the consumer AI market with the launch of an AI-powered call assistant designed to help users manage incoming calls more effectively.
Rapid User Growth Within Months
Equal AI claims to have witnessed rapid adoption since entering the consumer AI space.
According to the company, its platform has surpassed 1 million monthly active users and 350,000 daily active users within just eight months of launch.
The AI assistant helps users identify unknown callers, block spam calls, understand caller intent, and even perform actions on behalf of users.
The product addresses a significant pain point for Indian smartphone users, who frequently deal with spam calls, telemarketing outreach, and fraudulent communications.
The company believes that AI-powered call management could become a gateway to a broader suite of AI assistant services.
Strong Enterprise Foundation Continues To Grow
While consumer AI is becoming a major focus area, Equal AI continues to operate a substantial enterprise business.
The company says its enterprise platform serves more than 350 customers and processes over 1 billion transactions annually through its identity verification and data-sharing infrastructure.
This dual-business model provides Equal AI with both enterprise revenue streams and exposure to the rapidly growing consumer AI market.
Investor Interest In Consumer AI Continues To Rise
The funding reflects a broader trend of increasing investor enthusiasm for AI-native consumer applications in India.
As artificial intelligence becomes more accessible through smartphones and voice interfaces, startups are building products specifically tailored to local user behavior and regional requirements.
Industry observers believe India presents a significant opportunity for AI-powered consumer platforms, particularly in areas such as communication management, financial assistance, commerce, and productivity.
With fresh capital, a growing user base, and backing from prominent investors, Equal AI aims to strengthen its position in the emerging consumer AI ecosystem and build what it describes as a next-generation AI assistant platform for Indian users.
