Why Has Immuneel Therapeutics Raised Fresh Capital?
Cancer-focused biotechnology startup Immuneel Therapeutics has secured more than ₹100 crore ($10.5 million) in a Series B funding round as it looks to accelerate the commercialization of advanced cancer therapies and expand its international footprint.
The funding round attracted participation from a combination of new and existing investors, highlighting growing confidence in India’s emerging cell and gene therapy ecosystem.
Among the new investors were Singularity AMC, Rainmatter by Zerodha, and several high-net-worth individuals (HNIs). Existing shareholders, including Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Eight Roads Ventures, and F-Prime Capital, also participated in the financing round.
The fresh capital comes at a critical stage for the Bengaluru-based company as it seeks to expand manufacturing capabilities, strengthen its research pipeline, and bring innovative cancer treatments to more patients across India and global markets.
How Will The Company Use The Funds?
Immuneel plans to deploy the newly raised capital across several strategic initiatives aimed at scaling its operations and accelerating growth.
A significant portion of the proceeds will be used to expand the company’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) manufacturing infrastructure, which is essential for producing advanced cell and gene therapies at commercial scale.
The company will also invest in the commercialization of Qartemi, its flagship cancer treatment, while strengthening its research and development capabilities to build a broader pipeline of oncology-focused therapies.
In addition, Immuneel plans to support expansion efforts across Asia-Pacific and Middle Eastern markets, where demand for advanced cancer treatments continues to grow.
What Makes Immuneel Different In India’s Biotech Landscape?
Founded in 2018 by biotech entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, renowned oncologist Siddhartha Mukherjee, and Kush Parwar, Immuneel operates at the intersection of biotechnology, oncology, and precision medicine.
The company specializes in developing cell and gene therapies, a rapidly growing segment of healthcare that uses a patient’s own immune system to fight cancer.
Unlike conventional cancer treatments, cell therapies are designed to target specific cancer cells with greater precision, potentially improving outcomes for patients suffering from complex or aggressive forms of cancer.
Immuneel has emerged as one of the few Indian biotechnology companies actively building indigenous capabilities in this highly specialized field.
What Is Qartemi And Why Is It Important?
One of Immuneel’s most significant achievements has been the commercialization of Qartemi, which the company describes as India’s first approved CAR-T cell therapy for the treatment of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and leukemia.
CAR-T (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell) therapy is considered one of the most advanced forms of cancer treatment available globally. The therapy involves modifying a patient’s immune cells to recognize and destroy cancer cells more effectively.
The launch of Qartemi represents a major milestone for India’s biotechnology sector, as it demonstrates the country’s growing capability to develop and commercialize cutting-edge medical innovations locally.
How Has Immuneel Grown Over The Years?
Before the latest financing round, Immuneel had already raised more than $40 million from investors.
Its previous major funding milestone came in 2024 when the company secured ₹100 crore ($12 million) through an extension of its Series A round led by Taiba Middle East FZ LLC. Following that transaction, the startup was valued at approximately ₹587 crore ($71 million) post-money.
Earlier, in 2022, the company raised a $15 million Series A round co-led by Eight Roads Ventures, True North, and F-Prime Capital.
What’s Next For Immuneel?
Beyond India, Immuneel is actively pursuing international growth opportunities through clinical co-development partnerships in Australia and Southeast Asia.
With fresh funding, expanding manufacturing capabilities, and a commercialized CAR-T therapy already in the market, the company is positioning itself as a leading player in the rapidly evolving field of cancer immunotherapy.
As demand for personalized cancer treatments rises globally, Immuneel’s latest funding round could help accelerate its ambition of making advanced cell and gene therapies more accessible across emerging markets.
