Who Led WeRize’s Latest Funding Round?

Social distribution fintech platform WeRize has raised $7 million in a pre-Series C funding round led by Sony Innovation Fund, with participation from existing investor 3one4 Capital.

With the latest infusion, the Bengaluru-based startup has now raised more than $28 million in equity funding since its inception.

The funding comes nearly three years after WeRize secured $15.5 million in June 2022 from British International Investment, Sony Innovation Fund, and existing investors at a valuation of $115 million.

How Will WeRize Use The New Capital?

The company plans to use the fresh funds to strengthen its proprietary AI and technology stack while expanding its product offerings.

WeRize is looking to enter additional financial services categories, including mutual funds, online bonds, secured co-branded credit cards, and housing loans.

The company believes these products will help it deepen engagement with underserved consumers across India’s smaller cities and towns.

Why Is AI A Key Focus?

WeRize has built its business around an AI-powered financial distribution model.

The company uses its technology platform to support customer acquisition, product recommendations, underwriting, risk assessment, and lifecycle engagement across its marketplace.

Management believes continued investment in artificial intelligence will help improve operational efficiency and accelerate growth.

What Does WeRize Do?

Founded in 2019 by Vishal Chopra and Himanshu Gupta, WeRize operates a social distribution fintech platform focused on serving consumers in Tier-II, Tier-III, and Tier-IV markets.

The company offers a range of financial products, including credit, insurance, and savings solutions, through a network of local financial entrepreneurs and partner institutions.

Its model aims to bridge the financial services gap for millions of consumers who remain underserved by traditional banking channels.

How Large Is Its Reach?

According to the company, WeRize serves more than 300 million potential consumers across over 5,000 cities and towns.

The platform works with more than 19,000 trained financial micro-entrepreneurs and collaborates with banks, NBFCs, insurers, and investment providers to distribute products.

The company operates without physical branches and supports customers in six Indian languages.

How Does WeRize Use Data And AI?

One of WeRize’s biggest differentiators is its proprietary AI infrastructure.

The company says its AI stack has been trained on more than 20 billion data points collected from over 4 million households across India.

This data is used to power lead generation, assisted selling, customer engagement, underwriting decisions, risk selection, and product structuring.

Why Is This Important?

Consumers in smaller cities often lack access to traditional credit and financial products due to limited formal financial histories.

By leveraging alternative data and AI-driven insights, WeRize aims to create customized financial products that better suit the needs of underserved customers.

How Is The Business Performing?

WeRize claims to be operating at an annualised gross revenue run rate of $65 million and a net revenue run rate of $32 million.

The company also reported an EBITDA run rate of $15 million and an annualised pre-tax profit run rate exceeding $7 million.

Management expects profits to grow two to three times over the next twelve months as the business continues to scale.

What Do The Latest Financials Show?

According to its filings, WeRize delivered strong growth in FY25.

Revenue from operations increased 64 per cent to Rs 236 crore in FY25 from Rs 144 crore in FY24.

The company also doubled its net profit during the period, reflecting improved operational efficiency and stronger business performance.

Why Are Investors Interested In WeRize?

Investors are increasingly focusing on startups that address financial inclusion while demonstrating sustainable growth and profitability.

WeRize’s combination of AI-driven distribution, deep penetration in underserved markets, and improving financial metrics appears to have strengthened investor confidence.

The company’s ability to scale without a large physical branch network also offers a capital-efficient growth model.

What Comes Next For WeRize?

With fresh capital and an expanding product portfolio, WeRize is positioning itself as a broader financial services platform for India’s underserved population.

The company is expected to focus on expanding investment products, strengthening its AI capabilities, and growing its presence across smaller cities where financial penetration remains relatively low.
